We're all excited for this years "Walk from Obesity". Great strides have been made in the awareness of obesity, the understanding of this disease, and surgical treatment. We'd like to give a big 'THANK YOU' to Jeff, a patient of Dr. Simper's and an advocate up on the hill. He has given his time and energy helping others with the awareness of bariatric surgery and it's benefits. We appreciate his excitement and enthusiasm as we all join in the fight against obesity. Here is his statement:
The Surgeons here at RMAP are members of the American Metabolic Bariatric Surgeon Association (ASMBS). Years ago in an effort to promote research, education, and advocacy started the ASMBS foundation and OAC Obesity Action Coalition. Even though we are still struggling with Insurance coverage we are making progress. In the United States this year there will be 240,000 surgery patients. We are becoming a important voice for others that have not yet found answers to the disease of obesity. For the last 7 years we have had the "Walk from Obesity", a charitable event to benifit the ASMBS Foundation. This year we have expanded the event.
The Draper Youth Service Day in Draper is hosting the Your Weight Matters 5k Run, a free Kids Fun Run, and the "Walk From Obesity" on September 18th in Draper City Park. http://yourweightmattersutah.org/
This is a event for the whole family! Along with the Run and Walk, Draper Youth Service will be having a blood drive, donation for the food bank, and clothing drive. Our Surgeons from RMAP have donated a Wii fit System as the grand prize in the drawing you can register for a ticket.
So save the date. Register for the 5k and come meet others that have achieved their goal and those of us that are still on the journey. The event is unique in that we are having multiple exercising events for every patient and the medical professionals.
Myself, I have set a goal to Walk/Run the 5k. Come join us and help others discovery what we have.
-Jeff.
Again, Thank You Jeff and we hope to see you all there!!
